July 16 FIRE Evacuation Alert!

 I have no pictures.

Last night July 16, at around 9:15 a helicopter was going over with the hose hanging down and went into the lake right in front of the campground! I called to Wilbur as it was cool to see. Ran back inside to get my camera but missed it.

Then the women behind me is yelling, start breaking down. There's a fire behind the hill. If they tell you to go you'll have a less than a 1/2 hour. This happened to us before.

What???

We have so much stuff out and we have everything locked up.

Satellite dish, bikes, bbq, outdoor camp chef stove, chairs, tables, mat, dog water. Also all the stuff inside that has to come off the counters.  Plus taking the xchocks off the tires. Hooking the truck up.

Wilbur starts outside and I start inside, throwing stuff on the kitchen floor. Grabbing all our meds, eyeglasses, contacts, wallets, purse, phones. Turning fridges off, getting cuboards closed. Throwing things in drawers.

Wilburs outside, madly trying to get everything  into the truck and trailer bay. And giving me things to put inside on bed. Golf clubs, satellite dish, etc

Get the slides closed. Throw bikes inside.  Hook trailer up.

Just after the women behind me said, start packing, the police screamed up to the entrance of our campground, and shut the road down past it.

Word came from the ranger, we were on alert!

Most frantic packing in 45 mins. Both Wilbur and I were completely drenched in sweat!   Dripping off us.  If ever the expression "I lost 10lbs in sweat " applied, it was last night.

It got dark and still we were packing.

Then the flashing  lights went off.  I talked to the policeman and he said, the helicopters can't fly in the dark, so they are sending in the ground crew. We won't no more until then. But it looks like the helicopters knocked it down.

10:30 came the "we like what we see" from the ground crew. BUT you are on alert all night.

We opened the slides. Got the bikes out and stuff off the bed.

I tried to drink a beer and couldnt even finish it.

I slept on the couch until 3:00 and then went to bed. But very fitful sleep with lots of dreams of sirens.

Today comes the all clear. Slowly unpacking again. But lack of sleep makes my stomach queasy.

Boy you sure feel for people trying to evacuate a HOUSE in a fire evact!
