July 13, 2022 Coquitlam

Well.  We've been home a few days now.

I have been sleeping a lot, with covid. Not super sick.  But different symptoms each day?   Headaches.  Deep cough that makes your upper rib cage, below your chest, howl in pain when you cough or sneeze. One night I sweated in bed so much, it went "slurp" when I got up!  Today my arms are weak.  Just got up from a 5 hour nap!

Still tested positive this morning. And last night, Wilbur still tested negative.

I think I take a picture of this mountain everytime we drive home on the Coquihalla. It's just cool looking.  That's sheer rock, not snow!

The drive home from Kelowna was never ending. After Hope there was an accident.  But we needed diesel and go to Flying J, so couldn't turn off at Hope.

Then after Hope there was another accident around Chilliwack. The radio said turn off it's dead stopped.  So we DID turn off at Agassiz and went Hwy 7 until Mission and came back across to Hwy 1.

I was turned around dealing with a dog issue in the back seat (Joannie chewed through the seatbelt harness for Vodka so I had to take it off) when Wilbur listened to google and hanged a right.  Well, not a road for a big trailer.  Harris road.  He should have continued straight.  It has no curb or easement.  And a lot of turns and hills.  So I was glued to the side mirror.

Back onto Hwy 1 and it inched along until 200 st.

Now we drive a little slower anyways and uphills and downhills on the Coquihalla can only be taken as fast as you can.  Ie. Long uphills 75kmh.  Downhill we use the towhaul to keep us slow.

The trip, with a short stop at sister Anne's in westbank (20 min diversion?) took us 7 HOURS TO GET HOME.   Ya!   And Wilbur drove the whole way.

If you have been reading my blog, you know the reason we came home after only 2 weeks is because the truck had a check engine light. Which Wilbur knew was an "injector" issue, as he has a plug in gadget to read codes using a phone app.

Today it was confirmed by our dealer it was the DEF (diesel engine fluid) injector.  This part, if malfunctioning, starts restricting how fast/far you can go.  The service manager said they were very surprised it didn't do that.  Part is $375 and another 2 hrs shop time.  So you know, probably $1000.00

It means your truck limits you to driving only 80kmh, then 50kmh, then 30kmh.  Because the truck isn't getting the DEF.

Wilbur had looked up this code and feared this might happen.   We were lucky on the drive home.

Ah the fun of owning a truck.  It's all the stupid air pollution stuff that keeps breaking.  Yes you need it so the truck isn't puking black smoke.  But maybe they could make it so it doesn't break down!  The truck is 12 yrs old and only has 130,000 KMH which for a diesel truck is NOTHING. Should last 300,000.
