August 3 - 2023 Radium Hot Springs

Wow. August already.  Let's see.

We golfed at Radium Hot Springs. A little dry but the greens were great.

We rode 2 mins up the hill, around town, and to the only brewery. Great little place. Oh ya, we had duck poutine from next door.  Really good.

We had dinner at the pub after golf.  Good food and busy.  I won $1.00 whole dollar on pull tabs.

Also, when we got to Radium I had something too heavy on a shelf in the cupboard next to the stove, and it punched through the shelf.  The shelves are made of shelf boards that are maybe a 1/4" thick and they use STAPLES to hold them in.  So cheap.  So here is Wilbur building me a new shelf, while on holidays!  He's a good egg!

Old shelf leaning against our ladder.

Oh ya I had to sit on the wood so Wilbur could cut it.  I don't understand how my little 95lb body helped?  But I did it.

And of course while Wilbur was shopping, probably for the wood, the dogs decided to get in a dog fight.  I was throwing the ball.  And it started with their usual slow wrestle over the ball.  Then I guess Joannie accidentally hurt Vodka and he squeaked and then attacked.  I grabbed Joannie's collar, but Vodka wouldn't stop.  So I tried to grab his and I got in the way, and Joannie got me.  Ow.  So the balls went away.

Today unfortunately it was smokey. The day we decide to bike ride the trail from Invermere to Fairmont Hot springs. The Markin-Macphail trail. We tried it 2 years ago, on our regular bikes, and only made it part way.  It is 25 kms each way.  Today we made it all the way. The end at Fairmont is disappointing.  You don't end up in town. Just a parking lot beside the hwy.

When we started the smoke was hurting my nose and throat.  We pulled over and put a mask on.  Soooo much better.  I was thinking we were going to have to turn around and quit.  Also, wearing the mask stopped all the stupid grasshoppers hitting my face. (Two years ago we were going really fast, down hill on the trail, and something hit my chin so hard I yelled and pulled over!  I think it was a condor or Pterodactyl.  Pretty sure!)

But the exciting news is.....I fell off my bike again! We were coming up to crossing the road, which the trail does in a few spots.  And there are gates. So the first one I went around on the outside through the gravel.  Then the next one Wilbur went around, and so I did too.   Except my tires slipped in the gravel and I slid and down on my poor left elbow and road rash knee again.

This was Wilbur trying to get away from me!  Pre-fall.

You can see the smoke in this picture.

But the exciting thing on the way back is there were cows all over both sides of the trail. Boy these things are big. I stopped to take a picture and they started looking at me funny. So I got out of dodge!

See these three staring at me!

The black guy was huge. The picture doesn't do her justice.

The creek at the RV park and some pretty flowers.

Well we are here one more day and off to Crawford Bay on Saturday.
