Well we left Kelowna at 10:00 yesterday for the drive to Radium. Checked drivebc and google map and everything still ok.
Gased up at Sicamous. A little busy but not bad.
Back on the road for 2 minutes and traffic is coming to a halt, with google telling us to take some back road. I was driving. So Wilbur looks at google and there is an accident with a 2 hr delay. But if we take the back road, it is 1 hr less. Ok. We looked at it. Seemed paved all the way. Remember we are towing a 35 foot fifth wheel ( a trailer that attaches on the back of the truck). So I do a u-turn. Yes on hwy 1. Pull a little into a side road, put on my left hand turn, and do a u-ee Woman power!
We go onto the side road. No shoulder, so very narrow, but not busy. UNFORTUNATELY, we end up in a line-up that took 2 HOURS. SO NO FASTER.
And now the traffic is starting to MOVE on the hwy and we have to turn left onto it. And wait for the traffic in front of us to clear, because we have to go over a rail road track and not have the trailer sit on the tracks. I didn't want to be on the 11 oclock news!
We got to the front and thought about turning right and going back to said u-turn road and a left and a u-turn. However the traffic started backing up on the left, and I could pull out a bit. Then boot it. Yes with a 35 foot fifth wheel. Women power! 💪
It was a long frickin drive. I should have pulled over at Golden and let Wilbur drive the rest of the way. We WERE going to get gas again at Golden. But it was jammed. I guess all the people running out of gas because they didn't gas up at Sicamous and sat in a 2 hour line up. Starting and stopping.
So on we went. My eyes were burning and I was getting a little loopy.
Today I have just got up from a 4 hour 😴.

All the joys😁of hauling a 5th wheel. Always scary to go an unknown way and worry about getting stuck where you can't turn around! Good job Joy😊
