August 11 - 2025 - Calgary - Cranbrook

The drive from Kimberley to Calgary was uneventful. We went up to Radium and then go through the BIG mountains.

I think I take this picture every time!  It's just a cool entrance right after Radium.

There are a lot of mountain pictures.  The camera never gives them justice.

You know I had to put a cute doggie picture in.

I am going to put in a lot of pictures.

We were in Cochrane not Calgary, because that is where the RV park is. We visited with our friends Kim and Jennifer.  And also golfed with Tina and Brady. Who are friends of theirs, but we have met them twice, while in Palm Springs.

This is Cochrane.  Nice and green because they have had lots of rain. The spots are a little tight.  Nice off leash dog walk along the Bow River.

Cochrane

Waterfall, a very short walk from the road in Merrysville.  South of Kimberley.

Same walk to waterfall.  Voda really didn't like walking on the slatted bridge.  Despite Joannie's look in this picture (closer dog) she was fine.

Back to Cochrane. This is the bike ride along the Bow River.  Only got lost a bit, once.

Dog walk. It's the same bike ride trail if you continue on.

Cochrane.

This is Tina and me.

This is Brady and me.  Oops it's Tina. Brady and I were in the sand a LOT.  This course is north of Cochrane. Brady and Tina are members.

This is Cranbrook. The St Eugene course.

These two are out of order. Should be after next picture.

All of us for dinner at Kim and Jennifers'.  And there son Davis and his girlfriend Marra. Beautiful house, beautiful people and fabulous food.

Funny story right before dinner. Wilbur and I wanted to go to Costco.  I wanted flowers for Jenn.  When we came out, it was a monsoon!!!!  Wind, pouring rain and thunder.

But the funny thing is, we lost the truck!!!  Got turned around.   So here is Wilbur running around the parking lot, looking for the truck.  And then running back to me.  "I can't find it!"  And running off again.   (Visualize it.  Like a Benny Hill sketch.  The music. ) In retrospect it wasn't funny for him.  He was in a panic.  In fact more panicked than I have seen him.  The monsoon didn't help.  I regrouped and said it's that way.

He found it, so I made a run for it, with the buggy.  In my nice white dress, which was the first time I had worn it.  Soaked in seconds.  In the meantime, Wilbur ran back to where I was with an umbrella.    Then finally ran back to the truck, saying "you were going to wait for me!!!!"  I apologized saying I thought you saw me.    WE DIDN'T TALK for a few minutes, as we toweled off.  (It WAS funny.)

When we got to the house, we were soaked. Whatever "do" I had for my hair, was no more.

Cranbrook KOA. We have stayed here 3 times over the last 6 yrs.  Unfortunately it has gone down hill.   The grass is mostly dandelions.  When I checked in the woman (young girl) said they were very short staffed.  She actually wasn't there at first.  We had to wait a few minutes.  She has to do everything.  Deliver firewood.  Cut the grass.  Maybe they don't pay enough?   Maybe people just don't want to work anymore.   Ever since covid it seems the whole service industry is short staffed.   Where did they all go?

Speaking to the server at the casino restaurant, she said that is the feedback she has been getting from KOA guests.  She also said she wanted to work maybe 1 or 2 nights and she is working 4.  Again, short staffed.

It has a casino at the hotel, beside the KOA.  And I actually won!  I hardly ever win.  My friend Alicja ALWAYS wins.   We went again on he last night and I doubled my money!  Trick is go on slow nights.

Next one, Cranbrook to Kokanee Springs.
