Today was an adventure. We left Coquitlam around 10:15. We decided to go through the Truck Border. We have Nexus. It is a bit hairy using the Nexus line there, as it serpentines through. So you really have to go slow and watch both mirrors.
We get to the booth and get pulled aside for a random (my ass) agricultural inspection. Because of course we have a big trailer. I purposely don't pack veggies and fruit and meats. For this reason. However, I of course had a few extras this time. So we pull over and go inside.
The guy was actually really friendly and nice. I know, a border guard! So I told him everything I had. 2 apples, 1 cauliflower, a garlic sausage, an onion, cheese and eggs. He was mostly concerned about citrus and plants and fresh flowers and things that could have bugs in them.
We then had to open the trailer and truck and take the dogs out and put them in a provided for kennel, outside and then go and sit inside and wait.
After about 20 mins, he comes back inside and says "Just the eggs". I'm like "Ugh the most expensive thing, I buy expensive eggs". Another female guard chuckled, she knows the price of things. I wish he had taken the apples and cauliflower instead.
We then get to Tualip Casino and park and unhook and head to Haggens for groceries.
Funny as we are going through the store I start remembering all the other things in the trailer, I didn't tell him about. Bacon, popcorn, 2 frozen chinese buns that probably had chicken and pork in them (chicken is the big no no), frozen blueberries. Hey he searched. So up to him.
We are 10 feet from the tills and the whole store goes dark. Like really dark. One piddly security light. The others weren't working. Yay. So we all hang around for a bit. Then they tell us to abandon our buggies as they don't think the power is coming back.
Off to Safeway we go..... I JUST WANT EGGS! Am I cursed! So we get through safeway. By now its 4:30! We got down here at 2:00.
An adventuresome day for sure!
On to Oregon tomorrow.
Always another wrinkle!
